About IEF files

The .ief file extension is a chameleon that typically refers to one of three distinct formats, each causing its own unique headaches. Most technically, it stands for Image Exchange Format, an obsolete raster graphic standard originally designed for cross-platform image transfer before JPEG became the dominant king. Because it is a legacy format, modern default viewers on Windows and macOS will refuse to open it.

However, in modern workflows, you are more likely to encounter an .ief file as a data container. On Google Chrome OS, this file often functions as a zipped "Image Extraction Format" archive; users frequently discover that simply renaming the extension from .ief to zip allows them to extract the contents instantly. In industrial environments, the file serves as a statistical configuration export for Q-DAS solara.PRO (part of Hexagon), used to validate manufacturing quality data. Lastly, mobile creators using InShot may find video cache files with this extension, which are essentially renamed MP4 videos.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IEF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted LCF, DLF and EIF files.
