About IDEA files

The .IDEA file format serves multiple distinct purposes, primarily functioning as a 3D slicing project file used by ideaMaker, the popular 3D printing software developed by Raise3D. In this context, it stores 3D model placement, slicing profiles, and print parameters. Alternatively, it is frequently encountered as a legacy vector drawing project created by Adobe Ideas, a discontinued mobile sketching application. In software development, the .idea designation is famously used as a hidden configuration directory by JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA and related IDEs to store local project settings in XML format. Additionally, it can represent an Intrusion Detection Extensible Alert, a JSON-based security data format developed by CESNET. The main disadvantage of .IDEA files is their highly fragmented and proprietary nature. For instance, ideaMaker projects are locked to Raise3D workflows and cannot be opened directly in standard 3D modeling tools. Adobe Ideas files are heavily outdated, as the app was discontinued and its features absorbed into Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Fresco. Because these files contain application-specific internal parameters or encrypted data rather than raw standard 3D meshes or universal vector paths, standard online converters inevitably fail to process them. For 3D printing workflows, users must open the project in ideaMaker and explicitly export the internal models to STL, OBJ, or slice them to GCODE. For Adobe Ideas drawings, which are structurally ZIP archives containing vector data, extracting the contents to PDF or SVG is the most pragmatic workaround. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert externally, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can identify the specific type of .IDEA file, inspect its hex signature, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, such as a ZIP directory or JSON payload, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IDEA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted AI, PS, SVGZ, VIDEO and VI files.

FAQ

If you want to convert IDEA file to VIDEO, VI, BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP or GPG, you can use ideaMaker or similar software from the "3D Slicing & Vector Graphics" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to IDEA, try ideaMaker or another comparable tool in the "3D Slicing & Vector Graphics" category.

The IDEA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IDEA converter.
