To convert other file formats to the "Minecraft Mod Package" file type, you need software like Inner Core or a similar tool.
The .icmod file is a proprietary game modification package used exclusively by the Inner Core mod loader for Minecraft Pocket Edition. It bundles custom JavaScript code, textures, item models, and configuration files into a single deployable asset. Developed by Zheka Smirnov, the Inner Core environment was created to bypass the strict limitations of standard Bedrock add-ons, allowing developers to build complex, PC-style mods directly on mobile devices.
The primary disadvantage of the .icmod format is its severe software and platform lock-in. It requires a third-party Android application (like Horizon Mod Loader) to run, meaning iOS, PC, and console players are completely excluded. Furthermore, these files are completely unrecognized by vanilla Minecraft. You cannot natively import an .icmod file; it requires a $0/month but highly specific modding environment to open.
Users frequently attempt to convert .icmod files to standard MCPACK or .MCADDON formats. Unfortunately, because Inner Core utilizes a unique JavaScript API that is completely incompatible with Mojang's official Bedrock scripting engine, direct gameplay conversion is impossible. The best practical conversion targets are ZIP, JS, and PNG. By treating the file as an archive, you can extract the raw code and art assets.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because standard converters fail to recognize its niche extension or understand the custom API inside. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data.
