About ICG files
The .ICG file extension represents a collision of several distinct, proprietary formats, creating significant headaches for users trying to open them. The most common variant is the Inscriber Character Generator file, a legacy broadcast graphic format used by software like Inscriber TitleMotion and VMP to create lower-thirds and television overlays. These files are notoriously difficult to work with today because they are locked to specific, often obsolete, broadcast hardware and are not recognized by modern non-linear editors like Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. A completely different file with the same extension is the ACDSee Image Catalog, which stores thumbnails and organizational data rather than the full-resolution images themselves. This means opening the file without the referenced images often results in a useless database entry.
For broadcast archives, the urgent need is to convert these proprietary .ICG graphics into standard alpha-channel formats. We recommend converting to PNG or TGA (Targa) to preserve transparency for video editing. For archiving or viewing without the original hardware, PDF is a viable option for static reference.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ICG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted IGC, JPG, KGP, JPEG and CPT files.

The ICG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ICG converter.
