About ICG files

The .icg file format is primarily known as an Inscriber Character Generator graphic page. These files store text, graphics, and layout data used in broadcast television for generating on-screen text like lower thirds and tickers. Another very common use is the ACDSee image catalog file, which indexes image collections for fast searching within ACD Systems software. Additionally, the extension is used for IncrediMail backup catalogs and Image Comparer gallery files.

Because .icg files are typically proprietary project or database files, they present significant disadvantages outside their native environments. You cannot view them in standard web browsers. Sharing them requires the recipient to own the specific, often discontinued, software. For example, Inscriber software is highly specialized for broadcasting, making its graphic files inaccessible to standard graphic designers. Furthermore, ACDSee catalog files only contain metadata, not the actual images, causing confusion when users try to open them on different computers.

Converting .icg files is essential for sharing and archiving. If the file is a graphic, converting it to standard formats like PNG or JPG is ideal for broad compatibility. If it contains catalog or text data, exporting to PDF or standard text formats is recommended, though structural metadata may be lost.

Unfortunately, .icg is a closed, proprietary format. Standard online converters frequently fail because the data structure requires the original engine to render the graphics or read the database properly. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, you can drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the exact format version, inspect the file's hex data, and extract readable text. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ICG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted IGC, JPG, KGP, JPEG and CPT files.
