About IBG files

The .IBG extension primarily refers to the ImgBurn Graph File, a lightweight data format generated by the optical disc authoring tool ImgBurn. These files do not contain actual images but store raw statistical data (such as write speeds, buffer levels, and CPU usage) logged during the CD, DVD, or Blu-ray burning process.

Because .IBG files are binary logs rather than standard image formats, you cannot double-click to view them in Windows Photo Viewer or Photoshop. Users typically encounter friction when trying to share these "quality scans" on hardware forums or archive their burn history, as the file requires specific software like DVDInfoPro or the internal ImgBurn viewer to render the data into a visual graph. To make this data accessible or shareable, it must be converted (rendered) into a standard PNG or JPG image, or a PDF report.

A secondary, less common use of the .ibg extension (approx. 17%) is for NASA Planetary Data System (PDS) browse images. These are raster previews of scientific data collected from planetary missions, often requiring conversion to TIFF or JPG for use in standard GIS or image editing software.

The IBG Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IBG converter.
