To convert other file formats to the "Graph & Scientific Image" file type, you need software like ImgBurn or a similar tool.

About IBG files

An .IBG file is primarily a proprietary disc burn graph generated by ImgBurn. A secondary use is as a planetary browse image created by the NASA Planetary Data System.

ImgBurn uses .IBG files to record technical hardware metrics - such as laser write speeds, device buffer levels, and CPU usage - during a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray burn process. You can normally only open these files using ImgBurn or specialized optical media analysis tools like DVDInfoPro.

The major disadvantage of the .IBG format is its strict proprietary nature. It cannot be opened by default Windows or macOS tools, making it impossible to share burn performance charts natively on forums or via email. The NASA Planetary Data System browse images share the exact same extension but are completely different internally, requiring specialized scientific image viewers.

To make this data useful, you must convert it out of these restrictive formats. For sharing graph data or planetary images on the web, convert to PNG or JPG. For documenting burn metrics, convert to .PDF/A. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser with convert.guru.

The IBG Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IBG converter.
