About I01 files

The .i01 file extension serves three wildly different purposes: it is most commonly the second part of a spanned disk image archive, but it can also be an Intergraph CAD drawing or an Asseco Płatnik database document. When dealing with large DVD backups or software archives, tools automatically split the resulting disk image into sequentially numbered parts (i00, .i01, i02) to prevent individual files from exceeding the 4GB file-size limit of older FAT32 hard drives.

Depending on the file's origin, spanned archives are created and managed by UltraISO or legacy tools like DVD Shrink. If the file is an Intergraph drawing, it requires specialized workstation software like MicroStation to open. Płatnik files are localized to specific Polish insurance and tax software.

The main disadvantage of the .i01 format is its fragmented identity and heavy reliance on external dependencies. If your file is a disk image segment, it contains raw, incomplete binary chunk data. You cannot convert or extract it on its own; you absolutely need the preceding part (i00) and any subsequent parts, alongside the master index file (often mds). If the file is an Intergraph CAD drawing, the proprietary vector format makes it incredibly frustrating to share with clients who only have AutoCAD or standard PDF viewers.

If you have a complete sequence of disk image files, your best option is to merge them back into a single ISO image or extract the internal contents to standard video formats like MP4. If you have an Intergraph drawing, converting it to standard DWG, DXF, or PDF is highly recommended to preserve vector geometry while improving compatibility.

Because the .i01 extension is shared across multiple unrelated software ecosystems, it is difficult to know exactly what you are dealing with just by looking at the file name. Just drag and drop your file into convert.guru. Our deep analysis engine will inspect the hexadecimal file signatures to identify what it actually is. If it is an Intergraph vector file or XML-based document, viewing or conversion may still be possible online.

Convert.Guru analyzes your I01 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted I02, EDC, EWF, E02 and I00 files.

The I01 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our I01 converter.
