To convert other file formats to the "Time Series Data" file type, you need software like Hydrognomon or a similar tool.

About HTS files

The .hts file extension represents a split between two distinct, niche technical worlds: hydrological data analysis and proprietary hardware video recording. The most common variation is a Hydrological Time Series file used by Hydrognomon and the OpenHi.org platform to store data like rainfall, river stages, and groundwater levels. These files are typically plain text or specifically formatted ASCII, but their structure is rigid and optimized for the Hydrognomon interface. The key problem for researchers and engineers is that .hts files are not natively readable by standard spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel or LibreOffice Calc, requiring a conversion step to visualize the data outside the original software.

For data analysis and reporting, the best workflow is converting these time series files to CSV (Comma Separated Values) or XLSX. This unlocks the data for universal use in statistical software like R, Python's Pandas, or standard office suites.

Alternatively, an .hts file may be a PVR Video Stream recorded by set-top boxes using NationalChip chipsets. These files are notoriously difficult to handle because they often contain raw MPEG transport streams wrapped in a proprietary container, or worse, are encrypted to prevent playback on unauthorized devices. Users frequently encounter errors when trying to open them in default media players like Windows Media Player or QuickTime. For playback on PCs, mobile devices, or web upload, these video files must be converted to MP4 or MKV. If the file is encrypted (common with paid TV recordings), conversion may be blocked without the original hardware decoding key.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HTS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZIP, GPX, VTK, MCC and HTC files.

The HTS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HTS converter.
