Convert HTS to another file type
To convert HTS files to another format, you need Hydrognomon or other Data software.
Convert a file to HTS
To convert other file formats to the "Time Series Data" file type, you need software like Hydrognomon or a similar tool.
About HTS files
The .HTS file extension serves multiple distinct, often proprietary purposes. Most frequently, it functions as a Hydrological Time Series data file used by Hydrognomon or HEC-DSSVue for tracking rainfall, river flow, and other water resource metrics. Alternatively, it is widely encountered as a PVR recorded video stream generated by set-top boxes using NationalChip hardware, or as an encrypted educational video file for the Hoven HTS Player. A small subset of .HTS files also store High Content Screening settings for PerkinElmer laboratory equipment.
The major disadvantage of the .HTS format is its fragmented and proprietary nature. For hydrological data, the files are localized to niche engineering software, making it tedious to share data with stakeholders who only use Microsoft Excel or Python. For PVR video files, the situation is much worse: NationalChip recordings utilize 3DES encryption (GxPvr_Add3Des_For_NationalChip) tied directly to the hardware that recorded them. This DRM lock-in prevents playback on standard media players like VLC or web browsers.
When dealing with unencrypted hydrological .HTS data (often stored in UTF-8), the best conversion targets are CSV, XLSX, or TXT. This unlocks the data for universal spreadsheet analysis. If dealing with PVR video files, users typically want to convert to MP4 or MKV; however, DRM encryption usually makes this impossible without specialized hardware decryption tools.
Because .HTS files have completely different underlying structures depending on the source, standard online converters consistently fail to process them. Standard video converters cannot bypass the NationalChip hardware encryption, and standard document converters cannot parse proprietary PerkinElmer binary data. Our analyzer will identify the exact file signature. If it is plain-text hydrological data, we can extract the text. If it is an encrypted stream, we will save you time by confirming the DRM restrictions.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HTS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert HTS file to HTC, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use Hydrognomon or similar software from the "Data Storage & Encrypted Video" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to HTS, try Hydrognomon or another comparable tool in the "Data Storage & Encrypted Video" category.
The HTS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HTS converter.
