Convert HPR to another file type
To convert your HPR file to another format, you need Vaulty or other Data software.
Convert a file to HPR
To convert other file formats to the "Encrypted Media or XML" file type, you need software like Vaulty or a similar tool.
About HPR files
The .HPR extension is a "container" used by three completely unrelated systems, creating significant confusion for users. Most frequently (approx. 11%), it is an Encrypted Image generated by the Vaulty Android app. Vaulty hides personal photos and videos by renaming and scrambling them into .hpr files to prevent gallery apps from displaying them. Practical friction arises when you transfer these files to a PC or recover them from a backup; they are unreadable without the original App key or specific recovery methods, effectively locking you out of your own memories.
Alternatively, in industrial sectors, an .hpr file is likely a Harvester Production file based on the StanForD standard (approx. 18%). These are XML-based logs generated by heavy forestry machinery (like those from Trimble) to track timber volume and species. Similarly, in the French healthcare sector, .hpr refers to HPRIM formatted messages used for exchanging laboratory results. Unlike the Vaulty files, these industrial formats are text-based.
Conversion Best Practices:
For Vaulty Files: The goal is recovery. Try converting (renaming) the extension to JPG or MP4 first, as older versions merely obfuscated the filename. If that fails, they must be restored via the Vaulty app.
For Forestry/Medical Data: These are structured text files. Use a text editor like Notepad++ to view the raw XML/text, or convert them to PDF for readable reports and CSV for data analysis.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HPR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert HPR file to MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC, APE or WV, you can use Vaulty or similar software from the "Encrypted Image or Data Log" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to HPR, try Vaulty or another comparable tool in the "Encrypted Image or Data Log" category.
The HPR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HPR converter.
