About GZA files
A .GZA file is a compressed archive that bundles one or more files to reduce their total size. It relies on the obscure "GZA" or "BGA" compression algorithm. Historically, these files were created and opened using IZArc, a Windows-based freeware archiver developed by Ivan Zahariev.
The major issue with .GZA files is their poor universality. Unlike standard archives, they are not natively supported by macOS, Windows Explorer, or standard mobile operating systems. Most modern, mainstream archivers ignore this format completely, leaving users stuck with an unopenable file unless they download specific, outdated utilities.
To make the enclosed files usable, it is highly recommended to extract and repackage the archive into a universal format like ZIP or 7Z. This ensures anyone can open the contents without installing third-party tools. Because .GZA is a closed, proprietary format, standard online extractors usually fail to recognize it.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GZA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GZA file to ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB, ACE, ARJ or LHA, you can use IZArc or similar software from the "Compressed Archive File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to GZA, try IZArc or another comparable tool in the "Compressed Archive File" category.
The GZA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GZA converter.
