About GXA files

A .GXA file is most frequently a GeneXpert Assay Definition File, a specialized data format developed by Cepheid for their molecular diagnostic systems. These files contain the critical operational parameters - such as PCR cycling temperatures, fluorescence thresholds, and reagent specifications - needed to configure a GeneXpert machine for a specific medical test.

Because these files are critical for clinical accuracy, they are often encrypted or chemically signed to prevent tampering. This proprietary lock-in means you cannot simply double-click to view the contents in Microsoft Excel or a text editor. Attempting to modify the file manually will usually invalidate the digital signature, causing the instrument to reject the assay. Users often find themselves stuck with a file they cannot inspect or document outside of the lab environment.

However, a .GXA file might alternatively be a Galleria Planogram Archive used in retail space planning by software now owned by Blue Yonder. These are actually standard ZIP compressed archives containing XML data and images, merely renamed to .GXA to associate them with the planning suite.
