About GRR files
The .GRR file is a proprietary educational data file created by Gradekeeper, a legacy desktop grading application. Teachers use these files to manage class rosters, track student attendance, and record grades. The main disadvantage of the .GRR format is its closed, proprietary architecture. It requires a paid software license to open, and because most modern educational institutions have migrated to cloud-based Student Information Systems (SIS), older .GRR files often become inaccessible "stranded" data. Furthermore, they are not supported by web browsers and cannot be directly imported into modern platforms without prior exporting.
Users typically need to convert .GRR files to universal spreadsheet formats like CSV or XLSX, or document formats like PDF and TXT. Doing so allows teachers to migrate historical class lists and grades into modern environments like Google Classroom. However, standard online converters usually fail to process .GRR files because their binary structure is undocumented and closed source.
Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, often only the original Gradekeeper software can properly read or export the data safely. Our engine can inspect the file and often extract raw text or internal content. If our analysis detects unencrypted strings of student names, you can still salvage your essential data even without the original software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GRR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted JSON, GRK, ROS and RBBAS files.

The GRR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GRR converter.
