About GRK files

A .grk file is a proprietary data container used by Gradekeeper to store student rosters, assignments, attendance records, and calculated grades. Educators use this format to manage term performance locally. These files are strictly designed for the Gradekeeper ecosystem on Windows, macOS, and mobile devices.

Sharing raw .grk files with students, parents, or administrators is highly impractical. The format is locked to its parent software, meaning users cannot open it natively on standard web browsers or popular spreadsheet programs like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Furthermore, school districts often migrate to enterprise Student Information Systems (SIS), making legacy .grk files obsolete and difficult to access without maintaining outdated software licenses.

To ensure long-term accessibility, users need to convert .grk data into universal formats like CSV for raw spreadsheet data, XLSX for formatted reporting, or PDF for immutable grade sharing. Converting outside the native app risks losing specific report layouts or custom grading scales.

Because the .grk format is a closed, proprietary database, standard online converters routinely fail to process it. Often, only the original Gradekeeper software can accurately parse and export the internal data structure. However, you can still use convert.guru as a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your .grk file to identify its exact format, inspect the binary file, and extract any readable plain text. If our analysis detects a supported underlying data structure, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GRK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GRR, RBBAS and RBO files.

The GRK Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GRK converter.
