About GRA files

The .GRA file extension is primarily associated with Circuit Simulation Graph files created by NI Multisim (formerly Electronics Workbench). These files store visual representations of electronic circuit simulations, voltage nodes, and oscilloscope output graphs. A secondary use for .GRA files is as Building Automation Graphic files used by Trane Insight software, which utilizes a Microsoft Compound file structure to store HVAC system schematics. Other structural analysis programs like Graitec Advance Design, BOSS-FEM, and CYPECAD also use .GRA for results and graphics. The main disadvantage of .GRA files is their highly proprietary nature. They are siloed within expensive, specialized engineering suites. Without an active license for NI Multisim or Trane Insight, viewing these graphs or schematics is virtually impossible. Standard image viewers and web browsers cannot natively render them. Users typically need to convert these files to standard image or document formats like PDF, PNG, or SVG for inclusion in engineering reports or presentations. However, exporting directly from the original software is often required because the visual data is generated from raw simulation math. Because .GRA is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters often fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read or export the complex simulation data.
