About GPJ files
The .gpj extension is a "container" format used by several specialized industrial and scientific applications, most notably gINT by Bentley Systems for geotechnical data and Grapher by Golden Software for scientific plotting. In the context of gINT, these files act as project databases storing borehole logs, lab testing data, and subsurface reporting templates. For Grapher users, a .gpj file preserves the entire workspace, including 2D/3D plot settings, axes, and linked data sources. A significant portion of .gpj files are also associated with GX Developer, used for programming Mitsubishi PLCs.
The main friction point with .gpj files is their strict proprietary lock-in. A gINT project file is essentially a specialized database that cannot be opened by standard text editors or spreadsheet software like Excel. To view the contents, you typically need a paid license for the specific originating software, which can be cost-prohibitive for clients just trying to view a soil report or a graph. Furthermore, legacy versions of these files often face compatibility issues with modern OS environments.
For accessibility and archiving, the best approach is converting these project files into universal formats. For gINT and Grapher projects, converting to PDF is ideal for preserving the visual layout of logs and plots for print or sharing. If you need to extract the raw underlying data, targeting CSV or XLSX is necessary, though this often requires parsing the internal database structure. Additionally, some .gpj files are simply misnamed or encapsulated JPEG images; in these cases, converting (or renaming) to JPG or PNG restores immediate visibility in web browsers.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GPJ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GPJ file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use gINT or similar software from the "Geotechnical & Scientific Project Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to GPJ, try gINT or another comparable tool in the "Geotechnical & Scientific Project Data" category.
The GPJ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GPJ converter.
