Extract text from Voxel models (GOX)
To convert GOX models to another format, you need Goxel or other 3D software.
To convert other file formats to the "Voxel Project File" file type, you need software like Goxel or a similar tool.
The .GOX file is primarily a Goxel Voxel Model file created by Goxel, an open-source 3D voxel graphics editor. It stores 3D grid configurations, color palettes, and layer structures used to build voxel art. A secondary use for the .GOX extension is Go Export Data, which is generated by the Go programming language compiler during software builds.
The main disadvantage of the .GOX 3D format is its proprietary nature. It is a specialized project file rather than a standardized delivery format. You cannot open it directly in web browsers, standard 3D model viewers, or game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine without dedicated tools. Files can also become large depending on the grid resolution.
To use these models in games or 3D printing, users must convert .GOX to universally accepted formats like OBJ (for general 3D work), STL (for 3D printing), or GLTF (for web and real-time rendering). Note that exporting typically flattens the model, meaning you will lose the editable voxel layers.
Because .GOX stores native editor data, standard online converters often fail to process it. Usually, only the original Goxel software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
