About GNX files

The .gnx file extension is highly fragmented and used by entirely unrelated software applications. In most cases, it functions as a Genbox Family History database, a legacy PlayStation game save (such as Genso Suikoden II), a GenePix microarray data file, or a DNV SESAM structural analysis model. It is proprietary and often relies on outdated or highly specialized software to open. Users frequently need to convert .gnx files when migrating family trees to modern genealogy software, interpreting scientific data, or accessing old engineering models. The biggest disadvantage of this format is its ambiguity; without knowing the source, it is difficult to process. If your file is a family tree, the ideal conversion target is a universal GED (GEDCOM) file, which requires the original Genbox software to export. If it is a structural model from DNV SESAM, the file is internally formatted as a ZIP archive, meaning you can often rename the extension to zip to extract the data. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it lacks a universal standard and is often proprietary. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GNX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VTX, SAM and TFT files.

The GNX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GNX converter.
