Convert GMBL to another file type
To convert GMBL documents to another format, you need Vernier Logger Lite or other Data software.
Convert a file to GMBL
To convert other file formats to the "Sensor Data Log" file type, you need software like Vernier Logger Lite or a similar tool.
About GMBL files
A .GMBL file is a proprietary data logging document created by Vernier Logger Lite, a software application widely used in science and math education to collect real-world data from digital sensors (such as temperature, motion, or pH sensors). Educators and students use these files to record, analyze, and visualize experimental data through tables and mathematical graphs, functioning as an educational data logger.
To natively open or edit a .GMBL file, you must install Vernier Logger Lite or the more advanced Logger Pro. The fundamental disadvantage of the .GMBL format is that it strictly locks your experimental data inside the Vernier ecosystem. It is completely proprietary and cannot be opened by standard web browsers, mobile viewers, or spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. If a student needs to finish their lab report on a home computer without the software, the data is essentially trapped. Additionally, customized calculated columns often fail to import smoothly even into Vernier’s own mobile applications.
To make your sensor data universally accessible for grading, statistical analysis, or presentation, you must convert it. The best target formats are CSV (Comma-Separated Values) or TXT. Converting to CSV allows you to instantly open the raw numbers in any standard spreadsheet. However, be aware that converting to these plain-text formats extracts only the raw sensor readings; Vernier’s proprietary graphical layouts, visual charts, and mathematical curve fits will be permanently lost during the conversion.
Because .GMBL files use a highly specific internal structure designed to integrate with Vernier's proprietary hardware, standard document converters fail to parse the embedded data. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GMBL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GMBL file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Vernier Logger Lite or similar software from the "Science Education Data Logging" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to GMBL, try Vernier Logger Lite or another comparable tool in the "Science Education Data Logging" category.
The GMBL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GMBL converter.
