About GLT files
The .GLT extension is a source of frequent confusion because it refers to two completely different specialized formats, plus a common filename typo.
Game Model/Texture Data (21%): Originally found in GameCube and Wii titles developed by Next Level Games (e.g., Mario Strikers), and more recently in Nintendo Switch titles like Mario Golf: Super Rush. These are proprietary asset containers used to store character models, textures, or lighting data. Users often extract these from game ROMs hoping to edit them, but they are incompatible with standard editors like Adobe Photoshop or Blender without specialized community-made decompression tools.
Caterpillar License Request (20%): A generated text-based or encrypted file used by Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET). When you authorize the diagnostic software, it generates a .GLT file that you must upload to the Caterpillar licensing portal. The portal then "converts" this request into a valid license file (often DAT or LIC) to unlock the software. Warning: Editing this file manually will invalidate your license request.
The 'Missing F' Typo (Majority of Search Intent): Many users searching for a ".GLT converter" actually possess a glTF (GL Transmission Format) 3D file but are missing the final letter in the extension. glTF is the open standard for 3D web exports. If your file is a 3D model intended for the web, simply renaming the extension from .GLT to GLTF often fixes the issue, allowing it to open in Microsoft 3D Viewer or web browsers.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GLT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The GLT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GLT converter.
