About GDG files
A .GDG file is a game development project created with legacy versions of GDevelop (specifically GDevelop 4). Internally, these files typically use a structured XML format to store the game's architecture - including scenes, events, object definitions, and logic - rather than the assets themselves.
The main problem for users is that a .GDG file is not a playable game. It functions as a blueprint or source code file that requires the GDevelop engine to interpret. You cannot double-click it to play; attempting to do so usually results in an "Open With" prompt or a text editor displaying raw code. Additionally, because .GDG files reference external assets (images, sounds) via relative paths, moving the file without its accompanying asset folders often results in a broken project with missing textures.
To make the content usable, the most common workflow is upgrading the project: newer versions of GDevelop can import .GDG files and convert them to the modern JSON project format. If your goal is to play the game, you must open the project in the engine and export it to a distribution format like HTML5, Android (APK), or a native Windows executable (EXE).
Convert.Guru analyzes your GDG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted CBR, PDF, CC1, PZFX and ADT files.

The GDG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GDG converter.
