About GDBTABLX files
The .GDBTABLX file is a proprietary table index used within an Esri File Geodatabase (a directory ending in .GDB). Its primary function is to track record offsets and locate tabular data stored inside its companion .GDBTABLE file. This format is heavily utilized by ArcGIS Pro to ensure fast data retrieval during spatial queries. The major disadvantage of this format is its closed, proprietary nature. A .GDBTABLX file does not contain any actual spatial geometry or human-readable text; it is strictly a binary index. If you isolate this file from its parent folder, it becomes completely useless. Users frequently encounter errors when trying to share or open these individual files instead of zipping the entire .GDB directory. To extract usable data, you must convert the entire database rather than the index file alone. The best target formats are .CSV for tabular data, or .SHP and .GEOJSON for vector geometries. Standard file converters fail to process .GDBTABLX independently because the actual data resides elsewhere. Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

The GDBTABLX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GDBTABLX converter.
