About GBF files
The .GBF file extension is most commonly a Genetec video archive file created by Genetec Security Center. It stores exported video surveillance footage. Another frequent use is the GenBank flat file format utilized by the National Center for Biotechnology Information for storing biological sequence data. The Genetec .GBF format is highly proprietary and typically encrypted to maintain the chain of custody. Standard media players cannot open it, and it requires the standalone Genetec Video Player. GenBank files, while plain text, feature strict formatting that requires bioinformatics tools to visualize properly. Converting Genetec video files to MP4 or AVI is highly requested but usually requires exporting directly from the original software to decrypt the stream. For GenBank files, users often convert them to FASTA or TXT for easier parsing. Surveillance files are intentionally locked down to prevent tampering, making third-party conversion extremely difficult. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, like a standard H.264 stream or a GrieeX ZIP backup, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
