About FZB files

The .FZB file is primarily a Fritzing Part Bin, an XML-formatted text index used by the open-source EDA software Fritzing. It organizes custom electronic components into accessible libraries (such as the default CORE and MINE bins). Alternatively, an .FZB file can function as a 3D project backup in form•Z, a sound bank dump for a Casio FZ-1 synthesizer, or a bitmap file for FontLab Fontographer.

A major disadvantage of the Fritzing .FZB format is that it contains absolutely no graphic data or 3D models. It only holds raw XML strings with local file paths pointing to FZP metadata files and PNG or SVG icons. Because of this, sharing a raw .FZB file guarantees broken links on the recipient's computer. The only reliable way to share Fritzing parts is to export the bin from the software as a compressed FZBZ archive.

Because .FZB files are highly specialized text indexes or proprietary 3D backups, generic file converters usually fail to process them. You cannot directly convert an .FZB file to an image format like JPG or PDF to see the circuits. Instead, your best conversion targets are XML or TXT to audit the internal file paths.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FZB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted G1R, G1N and FZF files.

The FZB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FZB converter.
