Convert FWT to another file type
To convert your FWT file to another format, you need IES Virtual Environment or other Data software.
Convert a file to FWT
To convert other file formats to the "Weather Simulation Data" file type, you need software like IES Virtual Environment or a similar tool.
About FWT files
The .fwt extension primarily refers to Weather Data files used by Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) within their IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) software. These files contain critical hourly climate data - such as dry bulb temperature, solar radiation, and humidity - used for building performance simulations and energy modeling.
A significant issue for engineers is that .fwt files are proprietary to the IES ecosystem. You cannot simply double-click them to view the raw data in Microsoft Excel or standard text editors, making it difficult to audit the climate assumptions without an active IESVE license. Furthermore, interoperability is a challenge; migrating this data to open-source engines like EnergyPlus requires conversion.
For analysis and reporting, the best workflow is converting .fwt to CSV or XLSX (for graphing in Excel) or to EPW (EnergyPlus Weather) for broader simulation compatibility.
A secondary, less common use of the .fwt extension is for FacetWin Terminal Configuration files by FacetCorp. These legacy configuration files store settings for terminal emulation sessions. Users typically need to convert these to TXT to view or migrate the connection parameters to modern SSH clients.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FWT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FWT file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use IES Virtual Environment or similar software from the "Building Simulation Weather Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to FWT, try IES Virtual Environment or another comparable tool in the "Building Simulation Weather Data" category.
The FWT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FWT converter.
