About FWT files

An .fwt file primarily acts as a Building Simulation Weather Data file used by tools like Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) and EnergyPlus. These files store hourly meteorological data, including temperature, solar radiation, humidity, and wind speed, which are essential for HVAC load calculations and building energy modeling. A secondary use for the .fwt extension is for FacetWin terminal configuration files developed by FacetCorp.

The main disadvantage of the .fwt weather format is its niche and proprietary nature. It is not universally supported by all energy modeling engines, which often require standard EPW (EnergyPlus Weather) or CSV files instead. Users typically struggle to read the raw data or verify climatic variables without expensive building simulation software licenses. FacetWin configuration files are similarly locked to legacy terminal emulation systems.

To analyze the climate data, you should convert the .fwt file to a standard CSV or TXT format so it can be opened in Microsoft Excel or processed via data analysis Python scripts. For energy modeling interoperability, converting to EPW or WEA is standard, though some specific header variables might be ignored by the target engine.

This file format is highly specific and often only the original software can properly read or export the structured data. Standard online converters fail because they lack the required parsing logic for IESVE or FacetWin. However, just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view its internal text or raw data, and convert it when possible. Even if it is a closed proprietary file, our analysis can often detect the embedded text and output a readable result.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FWT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FSD, TLS and ICA files.

FAQ

If you want to convert FWT file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use EnergyPlus or similar software from the "Building Simulation Weather Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to FWT, try EnergyPlus or another comparable tool in the "Building Simulation Weather Data" category.

The FWT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FWT converter.
