To convert other file formats to the "Automation Project File" file type, you need software like Rockwell Automation RSLogix or a similar tool.
The .FSS file primarily functions as a PLC-5 Full Source file created by Rockwell Automation RSLogix 5 or as a FactoryTalk Studio project file. It stores complex programmable logic controller (PLC) instructions, tag configurations, and hardware parameters, often inside a Microsoft Compound Document container. In secondary use cases, the extension acts as a proprietary analytical sample set for FOSS Analytical equipment, or a recorded broadcast container for SKY PerfecTV! HD DVRs.
Users frequently want to convert these files to readable formats like CSV, TXT, or PDF to share ladder logic or analytical data with colleagues who lack expensive, specialized industrial software licenses. However, the format's major disadvantage is its strict, proprietary nature. It is designed solely for machine execution and precise instrument calibration, not for universal document sharing.
