About FSN files
The .FSN file extension is a highly fragmented format with several distinct, proprietary uses. Most commonly, it is a Banknote processing data file used by financial equipment from GRG Banking (often standing for Financial Service Network). It is also widely used as a project file for consumer software like Greeting Card Factory, as an older vector document for Serif DrawPlus (now replaced by Affinity), or as a geological model project file for ARANZ Geo Leapfrog. These files store raw data, layout coordinates, text, and embedded images required by their specific host applications.
Users often need to convert .FSN files because they are locked into specific, sometimes obsolete, software ecosystems. For example, Greeting Card Factory requires an active installation to open its projects, and Serif DrawPlus is discontinued. Sharing a .FSN file with a client or friend is impossible without conversion. The best target formats are universal standards like PDF for document layouts or JPG and PNG for graphics. Converting to these formats flattens the file, meaning you will lose the ability to edit individual project layers or raw geological data.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because there is no single .FSN standard. A banking data file shares zero structural similarity with a greeting card template. These are closed, proprietary formats, meaning standard online converters almost always fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a recognized underlying wrapper - such as a Microsoft Compound file structure or UTF-16 text - partial viewing or data extraction may still be possible.

The FSN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FSN converter.
