About FRAME files

The .frame file extension is highly fragmented and used across multiple specialized applications. Primarily, it functions as a structural analysis model file for engineering software like Frame3DD, where it acts as a structured SQLite database containing nodal coordinates, loads, and material properties. Additionally, it serves as a serialized JSON object data file for the Fabric.js JavaScript library, storing canvas configurations for web applications. Other less common uses include Adobe FrameMaker desktop publishing documents, Frame.io project files, and ZIP-compressed agent-based model simulation outputs for the FLAME Python framework. Opening or converting a .frame file depends heavily on its origin. Structural engineers need specific finite element analysis (FEA) tools to visualize the SQLite structural data. Web developers rely on Fabric.js to parse the JSON arrays back into a functional HTML5 canvas. The main disadvantage of the .frame format is its complete lack of standardization. Without knowing the exact software that generated the file, users cannot easily read, print, or share the enclosed data. Structural files require expensive or niche engineering licenses, while desktop publishing variants like FrameMaker files are notoriously locked into Adobe's legacy ecosystem. Converting a .frame file usually means exporting the data to a more accessible format. Structural models are best converted to DXF for CAD viewing or CSV for raw nodal data extraction. Fabric.js canvas files can be exported to SVG or PNG for image sharing. Adobe FrameMaker files should be exported directly to PDF to preserve proprietary typography and layout rules. Because .frame files are usually specialized database containers, compressed archives, or raw application data, standard online document converters will fail to process them. These generic tools do not have the specific rendering engines required to interpret structural matrices or canvas coordinates. Often, only the original authoring software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like plain text JSON, SQLite, or ZIP, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FRAME file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FRM, CEA, ADC, NOM, VIDEO and IMAGE files.

The FRAME Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FRAME converter.
