About FLOW files
A .flow file is a container for process definitions, though its internal structure varies wildly depending on the software environment. The most prominent use case is within Salesforce Flow Builder, where the file stores XML-based automation logic for CRM processes. Another significant variant is the H2O Flow notebook, a JSON-based format used by data scientists to document machine learning workflows in H2O.ai. Less frequently, it may contain binary network traffic data captured by nfdump.
The main drawback for users is proprietary lock-in: a .flow file is often just text (XML or JSON) wrapped in an obscure extension, making it unreadable to the operating system. Without the original platform (e.g., a Salesforce instance or running H2O server), the file is a black box. Users typically need to convert these files to PDF for documentation and archiving, or to XML/JSON to inspect the code structure in a standard text editor like VS Code. For network data, converting to CSV is essential for analysis in spreadsheets.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FLOW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FLOW file to APEX, SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA or XFL, you can use Salesforce Flow Builder or similar software from the "Automation Workflow Definition" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to FLOW, try Salesforce Flow Builder or another comparable tool in the "Automation Workflow Definition" category.
The FLOW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FLOW converter.
