About FLG files
The .FLG extension is a classic example of a "polysemic" filename - used by completely different software to mean "Flag" or "marker." The most common variation you will encounter is a system configuration file generated by HP (Hewlett-Packard) Recovery Manager. These are often zero-byte or small text files (e.g., preload.flg, burn.flg) acting as digital "sticky notes" to tell the system that a recovery partition exists or a process is complete.
The Problem: Because they are often just indicators, HP .FLG files cannot be "opened" or converted into meaningful content like PDFs or Images - attempting to do so may actually break your system's recovery partition. However, .FLG is also used by games like Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) to store team emblems (bitmaps) and by Dark Eden as renamed ZIP archives. In these gaming contexts, the files are proprietary containers that standard image viewers cannot render.
The Solution:
For HP Files: Do not convert. Verify the file path (usually D:\ or C:\system.sav).
For PES/Games: Convert these proprietary bitmaps to standard PNG or JPG files to view and edit team logos.
For Dark Eden: These are often disguised archives. You can verify this by renaming the extension to ZIP and attempting to extract the contents with 7-Zip to access the game data inside.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FLG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FLG file to ISO, IMG, DMG, VHD, VMDK, VDI, HDD, QCOW, QCOW2, RAW, VBOX or OVA, you can use HP Recovery Manager or similar software from the "System Status Marker" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert VFD, DMG, OVA, IMA, VBOX, ADF, PVS, VHD, OVF, ISO, DSK or IMG files to FLG, try HP Recovery Manager or another comparable tool in the "System Status Marker" category.
The FLG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FLG converter.
