About FLF files

The .FLF extension serves two distinct, incompatible purposes that often confuse users. Primarily, it is a Microsoft Dynamics NAV License File (now associated with Dynamics 365 Business Central), containing encrypted permissions that authorize specific ERP modules. These files are strictly proprietary binary or text-based keys; they cannot be opened in standard text editors like Notepad++ without appearing as garbled code, nor can they be "converted" to functional documents like DOCX. The primary friction point is opacity - administrators often struggle to view the license details (expiration, granule access) without having the full ERP environment installed.

Alternatively, an .FLF file may be a FIGlet Font, a specialized plain-text format used to generate decorative ASCII art text (e.g., large banners in terminal windows). Unlike standard TTF or OTF fonts, these cannot be installed into the Windows or macOS font book. They require a FIGlet interpreter or compatible text editor to function.

For Dynamics NAV Licenses: The most practical workflow is not direct conversion, but importing the file into the NAV/Business Central client and using the "Print License Information" feature to export the details to PDF or XLSX for auditing/archiving.
For FIGlet Fonts: Users typically convert the output of these fonts to PNG or SVG for web use, or convert the .FLF file itself to a ZIP archive for transfer.
For Tekscan Movies: A niche subset of .FLF files are pressure measurement recordings; these should be exported to MP4 or AVI using the proprietary Tekscan software to make them viewable in standard media players.
