About FCR files

The .FCR extension typically represents one of three distinct, incompatible file types, creating a common headache for users trying to open them. The most frequent encounter (approx. 43%) is a Blizzard Telemetry file, automatically generated by games like Overwatch or World of Warcraft via the Battle.net launcher. These are internal binary logs recording game flow control rules. They are proprietary, often heavily encoded, and generally useless to the end-user; attempting to open them in text editors usually results in gibberish. Users often find these cluttering their drive and want to convert them to TXT merely to inspect the contents or determine if they are safe to delete.

Alternatively, if you are a flight simulation enthusiast, your .FCR file is likely a recording created by FlightControlReplay (FCR). A critical misunderstanding here is that users expect these files to be video files (like MP4 or AVI). In reality, they are data files containing time-stamped aircraft coordinates, control surface states, and weather variables. Because they contain no pixel data, you cannot directly "convert" them to video using standard tools like Handbrake. To share your landing, you must load the .FCR file back into the FlightControlReplay software, playback the flight within the simulator (e.g., Microsoft Flight Simulator), and use screen recording software to capture the visual output.

A third, niche possibility is a Hytera radio feature license file. These are digital keys used to unlock firmware features on hardware radios. They are strictly binary authorization tokens and cannot be converted or edited without breaking their digital signature.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FCR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SAM, SLC and KSS files.

The FCR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FCR converter.
