Convert a file to FCM
To convert other file formats to the "Fabric Cutting Design" file type, you need software like Brother CanvasWorkspace or a similar tool.
About FCM files
The .FCM file is primarily a proprietary cutting design used by Brother ScanNCut machines and managed via Brother CanvasWorkspace. It stores vector paths, drawing lines, and cutting instructions for crafting projects. In a completely different context, it also serves as a game data archive for Football Club Simulator or a world file for fCraft.
Crafters frequently need to convert .FCM files because the format creates a frustrating vendor lock-in. You cannot natively open an .FCM in standard vector editors like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape. If you switch from a Brother machine to a Cricut or Silhouette, your old files become useless without a proper workaround. The ideal conversion targets are SVG for universal vector support without losing scale, or DXF for standard CAD applications.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is closed and proprietary. Standard online converters fail to process it because only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file and show internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FCM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FCM file to SVG, JPG, PNG, PES, PDF, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD or PK3, you can use Brother CanvasWorkspace or similar software from the "Cutting Machine Design" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to FCM, try Brother CanvasWorkspace or another comparable tool in the "Cutting Machine Design" category.
The FCM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FCM converter.
