About FCF files

The .FCF file extension is most commonly a Flowcode Project file created by Matrix TSL Flowcode. These files contain visual flowchart programming data used to compile code for microcontrollers. Other variations include navigation data files for Ford Sync, joystick profiles for Thrustmaster TARGET, and crystallography data for the SHELX suite. Because .FCF files are deeply tied to specific software or hardware systems, they possess significant disadvantages. They are proprietary and completely useless without the exact software or device that created them. For example, a Ford Sync .FCF file cannot be read by a standard PC, and a Flowcode file requires a paid license to open, compile, or edit the flowchart. Users typically want to convert Flowcode .FCF files into standard C or HEX files to program a microcontroller directly without needing the Flowcode software installed. Thrustmaster XML-based .FCF profiles are often converted or edited to raw TXT or XML to migrate settings to other joystick software like Joystick Gremlin. However, this file format is notoriously difficult to convert. Most online tools fail because the structure is either a proprietary Microsoft Compound format or a closed-source binary file meant strictly for hardware firmware.
