The .EWP file format primarily functions as an Exocharts Workspace file or an IAR Embedded Workbench Project file. Exocharts uses it to store financial charting layouts and technical indicators, while IAR uses it to save C/C++ compiler settings and file paths for embedded software development. Secondary uses include polysomnography (sleep study) data for Embla RemLogic and website project settings for Ewisoft.
To open these files, you must use the original authoring software. IAR project files require IAR Embedded Workbench, while chart workspaces require Exocharts. The main disadvantage of the .EWP format is its strictly proprietary, software-dependent nature. You cannot open these files without specialized, often expensive software licenses or active subscriptions, and they are completely unreadable by standard web browsers.
Converting an .EWP file is challenging because it acts as a configuration container rather than a standalone document or image. You cannot directly convert it to universal formats like PDF or JPG. However, IAR .EWP project files are built on standard XML, meaning developers can extract configuration strings into text formats like TXT.
