Convert EVENT to another file type
To convert your EVENT file to another format, you need VSPlayer or other Data software.
Convert a file to EVENT
To convert other file formats to the "Surveillance Log File" file type, you need software like VSPlayer or a similar tool.
About EVENT files
The .EVENT file extension is most frequently associated with proprietary logging and metadata systems used in surveillance and scientific hardware. The primary use case (approx. 50%) is a system log generated by Hikvision DVRs and NVRs. These files store critical timestamps, motion detection triggers, and alarm data. Unlike standard text logs, Hikvision event files are often encoded or structured in a way that prevents them from being readable in standard text editors like Notepad or Word, creating significant friction for security professionals trying to audit incidents.
Similarly, VIOFO dashcams and certain scientific instruments (using the European Data Format) generate .EVENT files to index locked footage or annotate biosignals (like EEG/ECG). The main challenge is that these files are essentially "orphan" data chunks - useless without the proprietary playback software (like VSPlayer) or the master video/data file they reference.
Conversion Advice:
For Security Audits: Convert Hikvision or Dashcam logs to CSV or XLSX. This allows you to filter incidents by date and time in Microsoft Excel.
For Scientific Analysis: Convert EDF annotations to TXT or XML to import them into open-source signal processing tools like Polyman.
For General Debugging: If the file is a generic JSON log, convert to PDF for easy sharing or YAML for developer readability.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EVENT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EVENT file to TASK, JSON, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD or CRDOWNLOAD, you can use VSPlayer or similar software from the "Security Event Log" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to EVENT, try VSPlayer or another comparable tool in the "Security Event Log" category.
The EVENT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EVENT converter.
