About ETS files

The .ETS file extension is primarily used as an eCognition Temporary State file in large-scale object-based image analysis (OBIA). Secondary uses include massive 3D microscopy image containers (paired with VSI files) and Enthuware Test Studio exam documents. These files are managed by highly specialized software like Trimble eCognition for geospatial data, Olympus cellSens for biomedical imaging, or Enthuware Viewer for certification tests. The biggest disadvantage of the .ETS format is its proprietary lock-in. Trimble state files are strictly version-locked, meaning an analysis saved in version 10 may fail to load in older software, and third-party tools like QGIS or ArcGIS cannot read them. Olympus microscopy .ETS files often exceed 100GB and become completely useless data dumps if their corresponding VSI blueprint file is corrupted or lost. Enthuware exam files use aggressive DRM encryption to block users from printing study materials or viewing questions on unapproved mobile devices. To ensure data longevity and interoperability, it is highly recommended to export your data. Convert geospatial state data to SHP (Shapefile), .GeoTIFF, or CSV. For 3D image models and virtual microscopy, exporting to WRL, TIFF, or .OME-TIFF preserves multi-channel data. Exam users typically want to convert to PDF, but this requires bypassing heavy DRM restrictions. Because the .ETS format is closed and proprietary, standard online converters usually fail to process it. However, convert.guru can safely inspect your file to identify its exact origin. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view its internal metadata, and extract the underlying text or embedded assets whenever a supported format is detected.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ETS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VSI, EST, XLSX, WF1 and BHD files.

FAQ

If you want to convert ETS file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Trimble eCognition or similar software from the "Geospatial Analysis State Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to ETS, try Trimble eCognition or another comparable tool in the "Geospatial Analysis State Storage" category.

The ETS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ETS converter.
