Convert EQP to another file type
To convert your EQP file to another format, you need MathType or other Settings software.
Convert a file to EQP
To convert other file formats to the "Configuration File" file type, you need software like MathType or a similar tool.
About EQP files
The .EQP file extension is a classic example of a "settings container" that confuses users expecting visible content. Primarily, this file acts as a MathType Preferences file used by MathType, a popular equation editor by Wiris (formerly Design Science). Unlike a DOCX or PDF that holds the actual equations, the .EQP file only stores the rules for how those equations should look - font styles, sizes, spacing, and formatting conventions.
The key problem for users is that you cannot simply double-click an .EQP file to view mathematical content. It is a configuration file, not a document. Trying to open it in a text editor often results in garbled binary data or unhelpful distinct text strings. To "convert" or use this file, you must load it into the MathType interface to apply the styling to existing equations, which can then be exported to EPS, GIF, or PDF for publication.
A secondary but significant use case is in the dental industry, where .EQP files function as project files for MillBox by CIMsystem. These files contain CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) data for dental milling machines. Like the MathType variant, these are proprietary and locked to the specific version of the software. Users looking to convert these typically need to export the physical toolpaths to machine code (like NC) or the geometry to STL, which requires the original licensed software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EQP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EQP file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use MathType or similar software from the "Equation Formatting Preferences" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to EQP, try MathType or another comparable tool in the "Equation Formatting Preferences" category.
The EQP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EQP converter.
