Extract text from ELO and EasyCut files (ECD)
To convert ECD files to another format, you need ELO ECM Suite or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "ECM Document & Device Settings" file type, you need software like ELO ECM Suite or a similar tool.
An .ecd file typically functions either as an enterprise document within the ELO ECM Suite or as a hardware configuration file for cutting plotters used by EasyCut Studio. Minor uses include EPLAN Electric P8 project data (structured as a ZIP archive), Esri ArcGIS Pro classifier definitions (JSON-based), and Life Fitness facility layouts (XML-based).
The massive fragmentation of the .ECD format is its main disadvantage. Because multiple unrelated software vendors use the same file extension, operating systems often fail to route them to the correct application. ELO documents are locked within proprietary enterprise systems, and EasyCut settings are highly specific to localized hardware. Furthermore, files like Mozilla's telemetry or Cryptee documents are strictly encrypted, making them inaccessible to standard text editors.
Converting an .ECD file depends entirely on its origin. ELO documents should ideally be exported to PDF or DOCX for sharing. XML-based and JSON-based .ECD files (like those from Esri or Life Fitness) can be converted to standard XML or JSON text files or parsed into CSV for data analysis.
Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard online converters usually fail. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data.
