About Q1 files
A .Q1 file stores custom audio equalizer band settings specifically for the Winamp media player. It defines frequency curves (such as bass boosts or treble cuts) to alter how audio files sound during playback.
This format was created by Nullsoft in the late 1990s. The main disadvantage of the .Q1 format is that it is a legacy, proprietary settings file. It is completely unrecognized by modern web browsers, smartphones, or contemporary media players like Spotify or VLC. It does not contain actual audio data, only parameter instructions for the Winamp DSP (Digital Signal Processing) engine.
Users typically need to convert this file to extract the frequency values to recreate their favorite audio presets in modern software. The best target formats are TXT, JSON, or XML. Converting to these formats makes the raw numerical values readable, though you will lose the ability to automatically import the preset into another audio player.
This file format is difficult to open or convert directly because it is a closed, proprietary configuration format. Often, only the original Winamp software can properly read or export the exact equalizer data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion to a standard text format may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your Q1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The Q1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our Q1 converter.
