About EPX files
The .EPX file extension is highly fragmented and used by several distinct, specialized systems. Primarily (38%), it is an epidemiological data project file created by EpiData using an internal XML structure. It is also heavily used (18%) as a diagnostic system data package for GenMark/Cepheid medical systems, functioning as a standard ZIP archive. Other uses include electronic design project files for Visionics EDWin2000, 3D model exchange files for Archicad, and vehicle diagnostic test reports generated by TEXA diagnostic software.
These proprietary files present severe disadvantages for standard users. Sharing them is frustrating because the recipient usually lacks the enterprise, medical, or specialized diagnostic software required to open them. For instance, TEXA diagnostic reports are actually encrypted PDF files disguised as .EPX, preventing third-party viewing or simple extraction. EpiData files require understanding specialized database schemas, even if the underlying format is XML.
To make this data usable, converting .EPX to standard formats is critical. EpiData files should ideally be converted to raw XML or CSV for statistical analysis in standard spreadsheet software. Archicad exchange files are best exported to IFC or OBJ for broader 3D compatibility. GenMark packages can be extracted to access the internal raw data.
Because .EPX is a closed, proprietary format shared by unrelated industries, standard online converters fail to process it. Generic tools cannot guess whether the file is a 3D model, a medical dataset, or an encrypted vehicle report. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects an underlying format like a standard ZIP or unencrypted XML, viewing or extracting the contents may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EPX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The EPX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EPX converter.
