To convert other file formats to the "Card Design Project" file type, you need software like Strange Eons or a similar tool.
About EON files
The .eon filename extension typically represents a custom board game component created with Strange Eons, a design tool used heavily by the Arkham Horror and Living Card Game (LCG) communities. These files are not simple images; they are complex Java-serialized object containers that hold text, layout logic, and high-resolution asset references.
Because .eon files are proprietary project files, you cannot open them in standard image editors like Adobe Photoshop or view them in a web browser. Attempting to print a raw .eon file will result in failure. To share your custom cards or print them professionally, you must convert the project into a flattened format. The ideal workflow involves opening the file in the free Strange Eons application and using the 'Export' function to generate a PDF (for print decks) or high-quality PNG/JPG (for web sharing).
Less commonly, an .eon file may be a particle effect definition used in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. video game series (specifically with the Eon Visualizer tool) or a digital nature environment file associated with E-on Software (creators of Vue). These variants are binary-heavy and require their specific game engines or 3D suites to edit.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EON file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EON file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Strange Eons or similar software from the "Board Game Component Design" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to EON, try Strange Eons or another comparable tool in the "Board Game Component Design" category.
The EON Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EON converter.
