Convert ENTRY to another file type
To convert ENTRY entries to another format, you need Day One or other Data software.
Convert a file to ENTRY
To convert other file formats to the "Journal App Data File" file type, you need software like Day One or a similar tool.
About ENTRY files
A .entry file is a proprietary data container that stores a single journal or diary entry. These files are predominantly created by Day One, a popular journaling application for macOS and iOS devices. Some variants of this extension are also used by the mood tracker Daylio or act as metadata files within the Calibre ebook manager.
Under the hood, .entry files do not follow a single standardized format. Depending on the app version, they might be structured as plain JSON, Apple Property Lists (plist), or even compressed ZIP archives holding text alongside embedded images and audio clips. This makes the format frustrating to handle outside of its native Apple ecosystem. You cannot natively open these files on a Windows PC or an Android device without the original application. Furthermore, because the internal structure changes between software updates, standard online document converters inevitably fail to process them. Users usually need an active app subscription to properly export their data.
The most practical target formats for a journal entry are TXT, JSON, or PDF for long-term, readable archiving. Because .entry is a closed, proprietary format, traditional online converters will reject it. If our analysis detects it is built on JSON or plist, our tool can extract and display the raw text. If it is a compressed ZIP container, viewing or conversion may still be possible, allowing you to retrieve your embedded photos or text logs.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ENTRY file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ENTRY file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Day One or similar software from the "Journal Entry Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to ENTRY, try Day One or another comparable tool in the "Journal Entry Data Storage" category.
The ENTRY Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ENTRY converter.
