Extract text from Electrical project and banking files (ELX)
To convert ELX files to another format, you need i-project or other Cad software.
To convert other file formats to the "Electrical Switchboard Project" file type, you need software like i-project or a similar tool.
The .ELX extension creates significant confusion because it serves two completely different industries: electrical engineering and European banking.
Most commonly (45%), an .ELX file is a project created by Schneider Electric software, specifically the i-project suite used for designing Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) switchboards. These are proprietary engineering files containing complex electrical schemas, component lists, and busbar layouts. The biggest obstacle for users is vendor lock-in: you cannot open these files in standard CAD tools like AutoCAD or view them in a web browser. They require the exact version of the i-project software to render correctly. To share these designs with clients or contractors who lack the software, you must convert them to PDF for viewing or DXF/DWG for further CAD editing.
Alternatively (12%), your file may be a data exchange file from the ELIXIR system, operated by KIR (Krajowa Izba Rozliczeniowa) in Poland. These files contain interbank clearing data and transaction details. The difficulty here is data opacity; the raw file is often a structured text or binary format that is unreadable to humans. Financial professionals and accountants need to convert these directly to CSV or Excel (.XLSX) to audit transactions or import data into ERP systems.
A third, less common variety (8%) is a compressed archive used by Edilclima for building energy performance analysis. These are often standard ZIP files renamed to .elx, containing XML data and reports.
