The .ELX file extension is primarily associated with three distinct proprietary formats. Most commonly, it is an Electrical switchboard project file used by Schneider Electric i-project. It is also utilized as a Polish interbank clearing file for the KIR Elixir system, and as a Building energy performance file by Edilclima software.
These formats present significant disadvantages for end-users. Schneider Electric project files are entirely proprietary and typically require commercial, licensed software to open or edit. They are not supported by web browsers and cannot be natively previewed in operating systems. KIR Elixir files contain strict, specialized financial data strings that look like unreadable code to average users. Edilclima files use a deceptive wrapper; they are actually standard ZIP archives that have been renamed to prevent tampering.
Because of these proprietary lock-ins, standard online converters fail to process .ELX files. You cannot directly convert a switchboard design to PDF or DWG without using the original Schneider Electric software's export functions.
