About EKB files
The .EKB file format is primarily used as an encrypted backup archive. Its most common applications include storing Microsoft SQL Server database backups and managing encryption key backups for EasyKeep software. In rare legacy scenarios, it also functions as a BIOS firmware file for synthesizers made by the Ensoniq Corporation. To open or restore these files, users typically need the exact originating software, such as Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio or EasyKeep. Users frequently look to convert .EKB files to recover data when they no longer have access to the original software. The main disadvantage of this format is its proprietary and often encrypted nature. You cannot open these files in standard text editors, they require specialized environments, and they are completely unsupported by web browsers. Attempting to force-open them usually results in an unreadable string of encoded characters. For the EasyKeep variant, the file is structurally a ZIP archive. Renaming the extension to ZIP and using an extraction tool may allow you to see the contents, though the files inside may still be encrypted. Standard conversion targets are BAK, ZIP, or CSV, but formatting and security metadata will be lost. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it acts as a closed, proprietary container. Standard online converters fail to process it because only the original software can properly decrypt, read, or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EKB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EKB file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use Microsoft SQL Server or similar software from the "Database and Key Backup" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to EKB, try Microsoft SQL Server or another comparable tool in the "Database and Key Backup" category.
The EKB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EKB converter.
