About EF files
The .EF file extension primarily represents two entirely different proprietary formats: an ExamView Test document or an EFT Pro Firmware package.
In the education sector, these files are generated by the ExamView Test Generator (now managed by Echo360) to store quiz questions, answers, and layout settings. In the mobile repair industry, they are created by the Easy-Firmware Team for the EFT Pro dongle to distribute encrypted Android flashing files.
Users constantly face problems with .EF files because they are highly restrictive. An ExamView .EF file requires a paid software license just to view the exam questions, meaning you cannot open it natively in a web browser or standard word processor. Similarly, .EF firmware files are heavily encrypted archives designed exclusively to lock technicians into using specific, paid hardware dongles.
Because of these strict limitations, teachers usually need to convert ExamView files to universal formats like PDF, DOCX, or RTF so students can actually read the exams. For firmware, technicians often want to extract the underlying BIN or IMG components to a standard ZIP container.
Standard online converters fail to process .EF files because they cannot parse the closed database structures or bypass the firmware encryption layers. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file, identify the specific subtype, and show internal text content. If our analysis detects an unencrypted embedded format, extraction and viewing may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EF file to RF, SQL, PL, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4 or BSP, you can use ExamView or similar software from the "Test Data and Firmware Archives" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to EF, try ExamView or another comparable tool in the "Test Data and Firmware Archives" category.
The EF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EF converter.
