The .ecl extension most frequently designates a Total Eclipse transcript file created by Advantage Software. Used primarily by court reporters and captioners, these files contain synchronized stenography notes, audio links, and formatted text. The major constraint is their proprietary nature; they are designed exclusively for the Total Eclipse CAT (Computer-Aided Translation) ecosystem. A standard text editor cannot interpret the embedded timecodes or steno dictionaries, rendering the file unreadable for attorneys or clients who do not possess the expensive ($4,000+) licensing.
