About EBU files

The .EBU extension primarily represents a proprietary backup archive created by Exact Globe, a comprehensive ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software suite. These files are essential for data recovery but present a significant interoperability barrier: they are not standard archives you can simply unzip. An .EBU file typically encapsulates a Microsoft SQL Server database dump, compressed and structured specifically for the Exact environment. Users typically encounter these files when trying to migrate accounting data or audit historical records without having an active, licensed installation of the exact ERP version used to create the backup. Opening them directly in Excel is impossible; the data is locked in binary database structures.

A secondary, unrelated use of the .EBU extension is for firmware update files on satellite receivers using ALI Corp chipsets. These are raw binary images intended to be flashed onto hardware, not viewed on a PC.
