Convert DXE to another file type
To convert DXE Extraction settings to another format, you need AutoCAD or other Settings software.

To convert other file formats to the "AutoCAD Extraction Template" file type, you need software like AutoCAD or a similar tool.
About DXE files
A .DXE file is an AutoCAD Data Extraction Settings file created by Autodesk. It saves the exact rules, filters, and configurations used to extract block attributes and properties from drawing files (DWG) into external tables or spreadsheets.
Users often need to convert this file because they mistakenly believe it holds the extracted data. A major disadvantage of the .DXE format is that it only stores extraction instructions, not the actual drawing or the final spreadsheet. This format is heavily proprietary and tightly integrated with AutoCAD, which requires an expensive monthly subscription to operate. Standard online converters fail to process it because they cannot run the extraction engine without the source drawing.
You cannot directly convert a .DXE file into a functional XLSX or CSV file containing your building data, as the file simply lacks that information. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data.
Despite this, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Because .DXE files are often based on underlying NET or XML structures, our analysis can detect the embedded text. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view the internal configuration rules, and convert it to TXT or XML when possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DXE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DXE file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use AutoCAD or similar software from the "Data Extraction Configuration" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to DXE, try AutoCAD or another comparable tool in the "Data Extraction Configuration" category.
The DXE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DXE converter.
