About DWC files

The .DWC file is primarily used as a 3D model format by DesignWorkshop and as a 3D asset in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. A smaller percentage of these files are binary firmware updates for Emulex hardware. The main disadvantage of the .DWC format is its proprietary, closed ecosystem. Modern 3D software suites like Blender or Autodesk Maya lack native support for it. If the file is a compiled GTA asset, the geometry is locked for the game engine and requires community-built modding tools to extract. Emulex firmware files are completely opaque, containing only low-level machine code. Users typically want to convert .DWC to standard formats like OBJ, FBX, or DAE to edit the geometry. Standard online converters almost always fail to process .DWC files because the format is closed. Often, only the original authoring software can properly read or export the data. However, you can use convert.guru as a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view its raw internal content, and convert it if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DWC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DWG, UCN, NSIS and L3G files.

The DWC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DWC converter.
