About DUP0 files
A .dup0 file is typically a standard file (like a JPG or ZIP) that has been renamed by synchronization software to prevent overwriting an existing file with the same name.
These files are most frequently generated by legacy software like Google Picasa or mobile management tools like Samsung Kies and Samsung S Note. When you import photos or sync data, and the software encounters a filename collision (e.g., Image001.jpg already exists), it appends the .dup0 extension to the new file instead of discarding it.
The Problem: Because the operating system does not recognize the .dup0 extension, you cannot double-click to open these files, even though they contain valid data. Users often encounter these files after data recovery or backing up old Android devices, leaving them with a folder full of unreadable data. In the case of Samsung S Note, the file is often a compressed ZIP archive containing memo data (XML and media) that requires extraction to be useful.
The Solution: The contents of a .dup0 file depend entirely on the original file type.
For Photos: If the file was created during a photo import (via Picasa or Canon tools), it is likely a standard JPG image. Renaming the extension to jpg often restores access.
For Samsung Notes: If the file originated from S Note, it is a ZIP container.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DUP0 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The DUP0 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DUP0 converter.
