About DPV files

The .DPV file extension is highly fragmented and associated with several unrelated hardware and software systems. Most commonly, it functions as a document preview file for legacy page layout software like Serif PagePlus or Microsoft Publisher. It is also heavily used as a proprietary digital surveillance video recording format by Bosch Security Systems DVRs. In industrial settings, it serves as machine-specific parameter data for WABCO Trailer ECUs, NeoDen pick and place machines, and Siemens NX Drafting standards.

Users frequently need to convert .DPV files because the original software is either obsolete or highly restrictive. Bosch surveillance videos are notoriously difficult to use; they cannot be opened by standard media browsers, requiring the official Bosch Video Client instead. Similarly, PagePlus preview files are saved in an older Microsoft Compound file structure that modern design tools completely reject. These disadvantages make the format frustrating to share.

The ideal target formats depend on the origin of your file. Surveillance footage should ideally be exported to MP4 or AVI to ensure playback on modern devices, though converting away from the raw format usually destroys the digital watermarks used for legal verification. Document previews should be converted to PDF or JPG for universal compatibility.

Because .DPV is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters usually fail to process it. These files are deliberately designed to lock you into specific hardware or legacy ecosystems, and often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format inside the Microsoft Compound structure or video stream, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DPV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CSV, SCHDOCPREVIEW, PREVIEW and PUB files.

The DPV Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DPV converter.
